First Flamenco dance workshop of 2010

Our first Flamenco dance workshop of 2010 with Felipe de Algeciras will take place on February 21st at An Droichead 20 Cooke Street, Belfast.

The Beginner class will run from 1 – 2pm and is suitable for anyone with 1 year or some previous Flamenco dance experience;

Flamenco Technique class will run from 2-3 pm and is good for all including complete beginners who have had no dance or previous flamenco dance experience.

The Intermediate class will run from 3 – 5pm and is open to Flamenco dancers with at least 2 years of Flamenco dance experience.

New term begins Tuesday, January 19th January

The new term of Flamenco dance classes offered through the Crescent Arts Center will start next Tuesday, January 19th. Please note that this class has moved from Saturday afternoon to Tuesday evening.

The beginner class will run from 6 – 7 pm. In this class we will look at the various rhythms of Flamenco, handclapping, posture, arm technique, introduce footwork and work on some basic choreography. Please wear comfortable shoes or boots with a low or cuban heel. No trainers, sneakers, flip flops, or stilettos.

SThe intermediate class will run from 7 – 8pm. To join this class students need at least one year and preferably two years of Flamenco dance experience. We will study advanced Flamenco rhythms including contra (off the beat), more advanced handclapping technique/footwork and occasionally dance to a live guitarist. We will continue to work on Alegrias, Sevillanas and the other choreographies we have been studying . If possible please wear Flamenco shoes and a practice skirt.

Felipe November 22nd Workshop

Flamenco Guitar, singing, dance and Palmas Workshops 7/8 November

Guitar workshop – A two day intensive guitar workshop for all Flamenco Guitar enthusiasts. This will include not only the two hours of Flamenco guitar tuition with Lucas but also the chance to learn from Lucas as he accompanies the dance and singing workshops.

Palos and Palmas Workshop. Have you ever wanted to know about the various rhythms (palos) of Flamenco or just learn a little about Flamenco. Well over this two day workshop you will find out about the various palos of Flamenco and learn the palmas (hand clapping) that accompany each style/rhythm or dance. This workshop is good for guitarists, singers and dancers and no experience is necessary.

Beginner Dance Workshop. This class is for all beginners. Those who have never danced before and those who are new to flamenco dance.

Singing Workshop Singing is a big part of Flamenco which a lot of people, not living in Spain, are not aware off. This workshop is for those who want to try a little Flamenco singing, even if you can’t sing, and for those who want to learn how the singing fits into the palo (rhythm). This workshop is also good for guitarists and dancers and no experience is necessary.

Intermediate Dance Workshop This is a more intense two hour dance workshop for those who have been dancing flamenco for at least three years and are familiar with the technique and rhythms of Flamenco.

Saturday Classes Start September 19th

Classes for the Crescent Arts September -December term will begin on Saturday, September 19th. The new Beginner class will run from 3-4.00pm. In this class we will begin studying flamenco technique, footwork, arms, hands etc.. We will also begin a basic choreography with an introduction to palmas (hand clapping) and the accompanying music.

The Intermediate class will also begin on Saturday, September 19th and will run from 4 – 5pm. We will continue working on the new Alegrias while reviewing Guajira and Tanguillos.

First FlamencoNI Pena a great success

We held our very first FlamencoNI Pena on Sunday, August 2nd at the Black Box and everyone who attended would agree it was a huge success. I would like to say thanks to Camilla, Deirdre, Ellen, Gail, Patricia and Sophia for their help in promoting and organizing this event. A very special thanks also to Cathy who worked so hard to make it a success but unfortuately was not able to attend to see the results of her efforts. Thank you Cathy )
