Elementary and Intermediate/Advanced class will start on Thursday 19th of January and Beginners will start on Saturday, 21st January. Have you ever heard them say how they would like to try Flamenco or do they like to dance or want to get some more exercise. The Crescent Arts Centre’s annual interactive dance festival CityDance will take place on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December 2011.

The festival features a wide variety of FREE dance workshops for everyone to enjoy, as well as screenings of popular dance films and a showcase of new and recent work from class participants, FlamencoNI and other top local dance companies.

We are delighted to announce that Magda Navarette will once again be coming to Belfast and we have lined up a fabulous series of workshops with this wonderful Flamenco performer on the weekend of 11th/12th/13th November. Workshops will kick off on Friday evening 11th November with a taster Flamenco dance class (6-7pm) for all those who want to give flamenco dance a try without commiting to the full workshop or a series of classes.  The weekend will then continue with  Flamenco singing,  and beginner  and intermediate Flamenco dance classes.  All classes will be taught by Magda www.boleros.pl who is coming to Belfast especially to teach this workshop. Magda has been very busy touring after the release of  her new cd so we are very lucky to have her with us this weekend.

All classes will be held in the beautiful dance studio of the Spectrum Center http://spectrumcentre.com . For class times and prices please check the schedule below;

Lower Garfield Street Belfast will turned into a street in Seville for Culture Night this Friday, 23rd September and the historic Barber Shop will host NI Opera who will perform arias every 30 mins from 6pm. In addition FlamencoNI will provide live Flamenco dancing including the very popular fiesta dance – Sevillanas. Get dressed up in your Flamenco/Gypsy best and come down and join us for an evening of fiery fun at the fiesta….

The new term of Flamenco dance classes offered through the Crescent Arts Center will start on Thursday, 8th September .

The beginner dance class will run from 6 – 7 pm. In this class we will look at the various rhythms of Flamenco, handclapping, posture, arm technique, introduce footwork and work on some basic choreography. Please wear comfortable shoes or boots with a low or cuban heel. No trainers, sneakers, flip flops, or stilettos. To enroll in this class please go to;

The Elementary dance class will run from 7 – 8pm. To join this class  students need  one year  of Flamenco dance experience. Anyone who took beginner Flamenco last year and learned the basic footwork for Sevillanas is welcome to join this class. We will continue to study Sevillanas and introduce another  new simple choreography. We will also continue to work on Flamenco technique. To enroll in this class please go to;

The Intermediate/advanced dance class will start on 1oth September and will run from 2-3pm. In this class we will work on complete choreographies (new and existing) while improving Flamenco style and technique.  2+ years of previous Flamenco dance experience and familiarity with Flamenco technique and palos is necessary.

Expo-Nations 2011 – Celebrating Belfast’s Cultural Diversity

Place of Victory for all Nations (PVN) has announced the programme for Expo-Nations 2011, a full day of exciting and informative events taking place on Saturday 13th August at the Europa Exhibition Centre, Belfast.

Expo-Nations, now in its third year, is a colourful showcase of the City’s cultural diversity. This year’s programme is loaded, starting at 1pm and running through to 9pm, and it’s sure to attract people of all ages and communities from all over the country. Highlights include an international arts exhibition, a fashion show, a live cultural quiz show, children’s entertainment (Expo-Kidz), cultural performances and a live world music concert.

The events will be officially opened by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile. Angela Ifonlaja, Project Co-Ordinator, says: “Expo-Nations compliments the efforts towards a dynamic, peaceful and shared Northern Ireland by celebrating the cultural diversity present in the City and providing a forum where people from many different communities and backgrounds can come together to learn more about each other in a relaxed and fun-filled environment. As we learn about our similarities and appreciate each other’s uniqueness, we discover how we can further develop inter-community ties that will harness the strengths of each community represented in the City for the benefit of all. It is very much an interactive two-way learning experience for both migrant and host communities in Northern Ireland.”

Expo-Nations is one of Belfast’s featured events that highlights how well it is moving on to being a truly culturally dynamic city. The symbolism of Expo-Nations in pulling together resources and talents from various community groups in our city resonates with the shared future that, as a developing cosmopolitan city, we are working towards. It speaks of the progressive journey that we have already made. The project is supported by various organisations, community groups, NGOs and local government organisations such as, Belfast City Council, the PSNI and Unite Against Hate.

Expo-Nations highlights the positive contributions of migrants to the province and is visible proof of the exciting new opportunities that the efforts towards good inter-community relations are creating right in the heart of this City.
