Felipe de Algeciras who is coming to Belfast from Spain to teach the summer intensive Flamenco workshop will perform at the Black Box on Sunday August 2nd as part of the FlamencoNI student pena. He will be accompanied by the beautiful guitar work of Lucas Gonzalez.
Felipe who recently returned to his home city of Algeciras, Spain will return to Belfast for four days and has graciously agreed to preform at our pena in the Black Box. Before returning to Spain Felipe spent much time last year touring and dancing in China, Dubai, Amsterdam and Strasbourg. During the 16 years Felipe lived in London he was in constant demand both as a performer and teacher, and gained a formidable reputation as one of London’s leading flamenco dancers.
Lucas Gonzalez has been performing and recording as a
Flamenco guitarist and percussionist (on cajón) since 1997. He has collaborated with “Trafalgar” (Argentina), “Ballet Flamenco La Rosa” (USA), Roberto Obregón (USA), “El Candil” (Switzerland), “Sólo Flamenco” (Ireland) and “Aires Flamencos” (Ireland). He has also taught cajón workshops for the “Contratiempo” Academy in Germany. In 2008, he toured Ireland with “García Flamenco”, and performed with musicians such as Salvador Andrades and José Parra in a number of venues, including the National Concert Hall in Dublin. Lucas regularly plays guitar and cajón for Flamenco dance workshops with internationally acclaimed artists including Maria “La Serrana”, David Lozano, Felipe de Algeciras and Cristina Hall.
Doors open at the Black Box at 7.00 pm and the show starts at 8pm. Tickets cost 7 pounds.
